Overview
One Hundred Famous Views of the Provinces was created between May 1859 and September 1861, as can be seen from the publishing approval seal dates. The printer Sakanaaya Eichi, who first published One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, utilizes the same kind of exquisite engraving and printing techniques as were used for One Hundred Famous Views of Edo. This work is Hiroshige II’s masterpiece; it also serves to indicate the technical level of landscape print engraving and printing at the time. From Hiroshige II’s work we will introduce you to what it was in the provinces that captured the interest of people on the streets of Edo.
