Overview

As we have every year since the museum opened, we continue the tradition this year of presenting masterworks from Aoki Collection. The collection that Aoki Tosaku (1870-1946) put together, and which this museum received as a gift, includes Utagawa Hiroshige's paintings and drawings, and works by Japanese style artist Kubota Beisen, western-style painter Kawamura Kiyoo, calligraphy by thinker Tokutomi Soho, reference materials, pottery, lacquerware, swords and other items, and amounts to 4200 pieces. Items were carefully stored without most having been catalogued, but in the order that the museum has been able to catalogue the works they are put on public display.
In addition to exhibiting the masterworks of the Aoki Collection, we are putting some rather unusual works on display that normally would not be exhibited.
